Profile of Tobias Gorn
Tobias “Toby” Gorn is an international wine and spirit consultant, drinks judge and award-winning drinks and cigar writer, and is co-founder & senior partner of International Drinks Specialists. He is also an enthusiastic clay pigeon shooter, official shooting instructor, practicing coach and referee, based in the UK.
Toby judges for many of the main wine and spirits competitions worldwide and is a panel chair judge at most of them. He is probably one of the busiest spirits judges on the international scene right now with regular visits to awards judging events globally.
He started his drinks industry career two decades ago and has stayed in the wine and spirit industry ever since. Throughout his professional beverage studies and since the early years, he has always loved whiskies, gin and the weird and wonderful world of liqueurs, bitters, aperitifs and fruit spirits. He is also a certified Shochu Adviser.
As a Scotch Malt Whisky Society veteran and ex-head sommelier for Michelin star awarded establishments, he gained a good understanding of unique premium drinks via his service and purchasing roles and judging work. With progressing to group buyer level, he had the luck and privilege not just to understand the drinks but to have a broader knowledge of their commercial value.
When observed in his natural habitat, he often organizes tasting events in different environments including out in the field after a shooting event or at country houses and other excellent venues UK-wide and beyond.
